Today March 2^nd 2017 on the eve of International ear care day which is celebrated all over the world on March 3^rd declared by W.H.O. IMA Bhawan was the centre of activity.

         A meeting was called under the chairmanship of D.M. Kanpur Nagar  Shri Kaushal Raj Sharma ji on early hearing  intervention & Cochlear implants. Also in attendance were CMO  Dr. R.P. Yadav Ji, Additional CMO’s, IMA President Dr. Praveen Katiyar & Prof. Dr.Rohit  Mehrotra. IMA President said that IMA has taken a lead for Deaf free Kanpur by 2030. IMA has made a group Deaf Free Kanpur lead  by Prof. Dr. Rohit Mehrotra the group will study how we can create  awareness in public & get children to be tested as early as possible. The   only Hospital in Kanpur to be recognized under the free cochlear Implant Scheme is Mehrotra ENT Hospital located at Ashok Nagar Kanpur where free surgery & free training for one year is given to all children less than 5 years. This Hospital is affiliated with Ali Yaver Jung Institute of Speech & Hearing which supplies free Implants through Govt. Of India & ALIMCO. D.M. said,  that State  administration is ready to help in  this programme to create awareness. All children who have difficulty in hearing or speaking should come to Mehrotra ENT Hospital and if selected would get free surgery.

        CMO Dr. Yadav explained the help through Asha Bahu, Sangnies  and ANM, PHC, CHC to collect data of all deaf Children. Also he gave assurance for Rs.25 Lac. for 5 Implants, also agreed that all children should be checked for hearing as early as possible. Vote of thanks was given by IMA President for leading support to this important work. He declared a programme on March 3^rd at Kanpur University at 9.30 AM sharp to be inaugurated by District Magistrate Kanpur Nagar at Kanpur University with Institute of Health Sciences presided by Prof. J.V. Vaishampayan Vice Chancellor Kanpur University, Prof.Dr. Rohit Mehrotra will be the speaker on deafness and Ear Care. Also a free Camp will be organized on 5^thMarch, Sunday at Mehrotra ENT Hospital at Ashok Nagar Kanpur  from 10 A M to 2 PM for children less than 5 years.

       Prof. Dr. Rohit Mehrotra who is the head of this team explained the mechanism of hearing He also suggested to link hearing test by OAE to oral Polio scheme already running in the State. All Children at birth should be checked for hearing and the deaf should be implanted in  both ears  in  the first year of life to give excellent results. He said Cochlear Implant is like a bypass surgery and gives  excellent hearing.

Prof. S.K.
